I suppose I am obliged to say what I've said before. How can you have a 2-3 team in the Top 5, a 3-4 team in the Top 15, and a 2-4 team in the Top 20. Sure, they could still end up there later on, but make them earn their ranking after a stumbling start.

Trip, Good question and Miami is a perfect example for why you don't drop someone completely out of the Top 25 for a bad weekend.
Miami lost two to Mercer, then bounces back and sweeps a very good UCLA team.
Under the circumstances you listed, we would have dropped Miami out, only to put them back in a week later.
I usually give teams the benefit of the doubt early in the year - especially the teams that have proven they're elite.

trriple makes a good point. We can only suspect, maybe, that UCLA has a good team at this point. We do not know. 2-4? Who's to say? I find trriple's point very worthy. So early on, you would think that LB State should be given the benefit of the doubt and take their play on the field as sole indicator they are the better team, in relation to Texas... with it again being so early and little else to go on. Other indicators... LB has taken two series (USC & Texas), taken Texas -- Texas has lost two series, lost head on to LB ... but rooted sentiments outweigh two team's demonstrated actions I guess. Let's not even talk about Rice.
Arizona is 8-0 and they aren't even on the radar screen, with plenty of losing or 0-0 teams between them and consideration. Granted, they've played a non-conference schedule to date on par with that of an average ACC or SEC team, but hey, shouldn't lots of wins and few or no losses, regardless of comp, count on BOTH coasts??? Be serious: if an ACC or SEC team was 8-0, they are slam dunked into the rankings. West coast? Forget about it! (Evidently)
13 of the Top 25: ACC'ers or SEC'ers. Seriously??? #16 Georgia Tech, 0-2, playing who??? Shouldn't one have to earn their way into the Top 25? Arizona, 8-0 ... not even on a radar screen???
I guess RPI slotting will always be there to back up pollsters. But does the RPI back up pollsters more... or do pollsters back up the RPI more? Do they become mutually fulfilling prophecies working in tandem greasing the way for oiled slotting into Omaha? It rarely buys a championship though for some odd reason. I guess that's earned on the field of play.
13 out of Top 25 'reserved' for two conferences! Down from last year's 15.

It is a conspiracy.
It is only week three for some, two for others and one for a few more. Quit whining, the rankings will sort themselves out over the course of the season. A Titan should know this!

1. Rankings/polls are fairly meaningless. They tell you more about the person or people doing the ranking than they do about which team is best.
2. I did not suggest that Rice or Texas or anyone else should be "dropped" from the rankings. But a team with Rice's record has no business being in the Top 5. Let them fight their way back to that level if they are that good.
3. Kendall: "I usually give teams the benefit of the doubt early in the year - especially the teams that have proven they're elite." Again, that tells us more about you as the person doing the ranking than it does about the teams you rank highly.
